Seeds of success: Two-day school garden symposium this weekend
Soil Born Farms to help SCUSD educators grow their teaching repertoire
February 26, 2016 (Sacramento): Hundreds of teachers, parents, garden advocates and others will meet at Luther Burbank High School this weekend for the two-day Garden in Every School Symposium coordinated by Soil Born Farms.
The symposium will feature workshops designed to help teachers use school gardens as outdoor classrooms where students can get hands-on lessons in such subjects as plant biology, environmental sustainability and climate change. Other workshops will focus on building butterfly habitats, cooking fruits and vegetables and creating career pathways in the agriculture industry.
SCUSD is a regional leader in eco-literacy through its Project Green program, which awards bond funding to student-led teams that develop innovative ways to conserve energy and water on campus.
