SACRAMENTO - The Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education will recognize 582 graduates who have achieved the State Seal of Biliteracy. The Board will recognize these students at its meeting on Thursday, May 20, 2021. The Seal of Biliteracy is a recognition given by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction for graduating high school students who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English. The Seal will appear on each student’s diploma. 

“Together, these 582 Sac City Unified students can communicate in 17 languages,” said SCUSD Superintendent Jorge A. Aguilar.  “These students dedicated themselves to a rigorous course of study during an already challenging year. We applaud these exceptional students for their achievement – and we are confident that they will leave their mark on the world.”

To qualify for the State Seal of Biliteracy, high school graduates must have met one of the following criteria:

Students must have a minimum of 2.0 grade point average in all 4 years of their English Language Course work AND a minimum 3.0 grade point average in all 4 years of a world language course work 

Students must pass a world language advanced placement test (AP) with a 4 or a 5

Students must pass the Sacramento County Office of Education World Language Test both in written and oral language. A total of 582 students were awarded the seal of biliteracy in 17 languages.

Over 500 of Sac City Unified students pre-qualified for the Seal of Biliteracy through coursework in English and world language, while 75 qualified by demonstrating their home language proficiency on a language exam, on top of having a high GPA.

Five students received the seal in two or more languages, and one student earned the seal for their mastery of three languages:

• Sitie Cai, Liangyu Zhu, and Junru Li from CK McClatchy earned the Seal in Mandarin and Cantonese
• Qingfa Liu from Hiram Johnson earned the Seal in Mandarin and Cantonese
• Zar Sanga Amin from Luther Burbank earned the Seal in Dari and Pashto
• Fatima Amin from Luther Burbank earned the Seal in three languages including Dari, Farsi, and Pashto.

SACRAMENTO – La Junta Directiva de Educación del Distrito Escolar Unificado de la Ciudad de Sacramento reconocerá a 582 estudiantes graduados que han logrado el Sello Estatal de Alfabetización Bilingüe. La Junta Directiva reconocerá a estos alumnos en su reunión del jueves 20 de mayo del 2021. El Sello de Alfabetización Bilingüe es un reconocimiento otorgado por el Superintendente Estatal de Instrucción Pública para estudiantes graduados de la preparatoria que han alcanzado un alto nivel de competencia en hablar, leer y escribir en uno o más idiomas, además del inglés. El Sello aparecerá en el diploma de cada estudiante.

“En conjunto, estos 582 estudiantes del Distrito Escolar Unificado de la Ciudad de Sacramento pueden comunicarse en 17 idiomas,” dijo el Superintendente Jorge A. Aguilar de SCUSD.  “Estos estudiantes se dedicaron a un curso de estudio riguroso durante un año ya desafiante. Aplaudimos a estos estudiantes excepcionales por su logro, y estamos seguros de que dejarán su huella en el mundo.”

Para calificar para el Sello Estatal de Alfabetización Bilingüe, los graduados de preparatoria deben haber cumplido con uno de los siguientes criterios:

SACRAMENTO – Hội Đồng Giáo Dục Học Khu Sacramento sẽ công nhận 582 học sinh tốt nghiệp đã đạt được Dấu Chứng Nhận Song Ngữ của Tiểu Bang (State Seal of Biliteracy). Hội đồng giáo dục sẽ công nhận những học sinh này tại buổi họp ngày Thứ năm, ngày 20 tháng 5 năm 2021.  Dấu Chứng Nhận Song Ngữ là sự công nhận do vị Giám Đốc Tiểu Bang về Giáo Dục Công Lập dành cho các học sinh tốt nghiệp trung học đã đạt được trình độ thông thạo trong các kỹ năng nói, đọc, và viết một hay nhiều thứ tiếng khác ngoài tiếng Anh.  Dấu chứng nhận sẽ xuất hiện trong bằng tốt nghiệp trung học của mỗi học sinh.   

Giám Đốc Học Khu SCUSD Jorge A. Aguilar nói “Cùng nhau, 582 học sinh của Học Khu Sacramento này có thể giao tiếp trong 17 ngôn ngữ,”.  “Những học sinh này đã cống hiến hết mình cho quá trình học tập nghiêm túc trong một năm học đầy thử thách.  Chúng tôi hoan nghênh những học sinh xuất sắc này vì thành tích của các em – và chúng tôi tin tưởng rằng các em sẽ để lại dấu ấn trên thế giới.”

Để hội đủ điều kiện nhận Dấu Chứng Nhận Song Ngữ của Tiểu Bang, các học sinh tốt nghiệp trung học phải đáp ứng được một trong các tiêu chuẩn sau đây:

Các học sinh phải đạt điểm trung bình tối thiểu là 2.0 trong 4 năm học cho môn tiếng Anh VÀ điểm trung bình tối thiểu là 3.0 trong 4 năm học cho môn ngoại ngữ 

Các học sinh phải vượt qua bài kiểm tra lớp nâng cao môn ngoại ngữ (AP) đạt điểm 4 hay 5

Các học sinh phải vượt qua bài kiểm tra Ngoại Ngữ của Sở Giáo Dục Quật Hạt Sacramento cả phần thi viết và vấn đáp.  Tổng số 582 học sinh đã được trao dấu chứng nhận song ngữ trong 17 ngôn ngữ.
