Sac City Board to Vote on Resolution in Favor of Placing Proposed Tax Extensions on Ballot
The Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) Board of Education will vote at its February 3 meeting on a resolution in support of Governor Jerry Brown’s proposal to hold a special election on the extension of statewide taxes. The Governor has proposed the measure, in part, to mitigate cuts to statewide education spending.
In order for the tax extension to be voted on, the state legislature must first decide to hold a special election, likely in June.
Without the Governor’s proposed tax extension, SCUSD is facing $20-23 million in budget cuts for the 2011-12 school year. This is on top of the $107 million that the district has already cut over the past three years. If the measure were to make it to a special election and be approved by California voters, the district’s budget deficit would be $7-10 million for 2011-12.
