Meeting on Thursday to discuss Jefferson School’s future
Community forum on Midtown site co-hosted by City Councilman Hansen, SCUSD Board Member Hansen
April 26, 2016 (Sacramento): Sacramento City Unified School District Board Member Jay Hansen and City Councilman Steve Hansen are co-hosting a community meeting on Thursday (April 28) to discuss the future of Jefferson School at 16th and N streets in Midtown.
The meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Washington Elementary School, 520 18th St.
The first Jefferson Primary School at 16th and N streets was constructed between 1869-70 at a cost of $8,800. The original building was replaced in 1923. The school served students until the 1950s, when it became the district’s administrative offices. It has been used for storage since 2009.
Because of its ties to the city’s history, the building is listed on the Sacramento Register of Historic and Cultural Resources. Recent interest in possible new uses has prompted the district to hold Thursday’s meeting.
