A. Warren McClaskey Adult Education Center provides inclusive learning opportunities for students with disabilities who are 18 years or older with a high school diploma or equivalency, or 22 years or older without one and are eligible Alta Regional Center clients. These programs are designed to support lifelong learning, personal growth, and increased independence. Through specialized instruction, students develop essential skills that enhance their ability to engage in their communities, pursue meaningful activities, and achieve greater self-sufficiency. Educators use individualized strategies to accommodate diverse learning needs, ensuring that all students receive the guidance and support necessary to reach their full potential.
Instructional classes focus on key areas that promote independence and community integration. Socialization classes help students build communication skills, develop relationships, and navigate social interactions in various settings. Life skills instruction provides training in essential daily activities, such as money management, meal preparation, personal care, and decision-making, empowering students to lead more independent lives. Community access classes offer hands-on learning experiences that teach students how to use public transportation, access community resources, and participate in civic and recreational activities. By fostering confidence and self-advocacy, adult education programs create opportunities for students with disabilities to lead fulfilling and engaged lives
