At the March 6 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Education, the Board recognized Parkway Elementary students Juan Serrato, Kage Moua, Alexandros Ridgeway, Khaylia Myers, Sophia Casapao, JayLee Mallory, Mozamil Oriyakhail, Pakue Vang, and Avery Fuentes as Stellar Students. Parkway Principal Sharifa Siti-Bolton and teachers nominated the nine students for their academic success, kindness, leadership, empathy, respect, and hard work.

The Board approved Resolution 3480 to reaffirm Sacramento City Unified’s status as a Safe Haven District with updated and current language and actions. Since 2017, SCUSD has proudly called itself a Safe Haven School District – a title that reflects our unwavering commitment to the education and well-being of all students no matter their immigration status, sexual orientation, ethnicity, race, religion, ability, sex and gender identity, socio-economic status or beliefs. The resolution can be read in its entirety, here.

Informational reports were then received by the Board, including:

  • A presentation and informational report by the District’s Wellness Committee to provide an update on their activities.

  • Facilities staff provided an update on construction projects, bond program activities, and financial information. The Sacramento City Unified School District is currently working on projects funded by Measure H, passed in 2020. Measure Q and R have been exhausted and are undergoing final audits. The district has not issued any Measure D (approved in November 2024) bonds yet.

The Board then held Public Hearings for Charter Renewals for George Washington Carver School of Arts and Science, Sacramento New Technology Early College High School, and The MET Sacramento.
