How to Get to School
Students may face a number of barriers to regular attendance, but transportation should not be one of them. If your student does not have school bus transportation or a ride to school, check out these alternative transportation methods or call our Attendance & Engagement Office at (916) 643-2121 for additional support.
Public Transit
SacRT provides TK through 12th grade students with RydeFree passes so that they can get where they need to be by bus or light rail, fare-free. Get the pass and search for your school bus route.
Biking
Sacramento is a bike-friendly city and you can help your student find a route to school with this City of Sacramento bikeways map. Biking is a great way to get some exercise and reduce your carbon footprint. Need help getting your bicycle back on the road? Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates may be able to help at an upcoming Bike MD clinic.
Walking
If your student doesn’t live miles away from their school, walking could be a healthy option, giving them more steps and more time outdoors. Young children should walk with a parent or guardian and older students may also use the buddy system. Familiarize your student with pedestrian safety tips and model safe practices when walking your student to and from school. You can also get involved with Civic Thread and their community-driven efforts to improve walking safety in Sacramento.
