At the November 21 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board, the Board recognized Samantha Vasquez, a 6th grade student at Pony Express Elementary, as a Stellar Student. Samantha has attended Pony Express since kindergarten, and has outstanding attendance. She is responsible and kind to all students. Samantha has served on the student council and been a member of the football and basketball teams for the past two years. She takes her sports and school work seriously, practicing daily and focusing on making progress.
The Board approved the appointment of Cindy Tao as Assistant Superintendent for Business Services, and held a special presentation to recognize outgoing Board Member Lavinia Grace Phillips, who has served on the Board representing Area 7 for four years and currently serves as Board president.
The Board received an informational update on the implementation of the SCUSD and Black Parallel School Board Action Plan that was developed in response to the District’s ongoing challenges in promoting and providing equitable, inclusive, and effective educational environments for all students, particularly Black students and those with special needs.
The Board took action to approve a request from Sol Aureus College Preparatory (S.A.C. Prep) to add Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to its current charter. The Board also acted to conditionally approve a renewal petition for S.A.C. Prep’s charter for a term of 5 years, and specified several corrective actions for the school to address.
The Board held a Public Hearing and subsequently took action to approve a resolution that conveys easement entitlements to County of Sacramento for a utility easement at Nicholas Elementary as part of the new construction at that site.
