Community Policy Event: Race for Equity

e-Connections Post

Dear SCUSD Families, Educators & Community,

We’re inviting you to join us for an upcoming equity Working Symposium. We will explore policies that are connected to the Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) & Black Parallel School Board (BPSB) Action Plan and ways in which we can incorporate an equity lens through an anti-racist/anti-bias frame for select board policies and administrative regulations.

SCUSD is determined to ensure that the voices of our Black/African American students, students with disabilities, and their families are not only heard but centered in our ongoing discussions. By working together, we can build a more inclusive, equitable, responsive, and empowering educational experience for all. Come join us in making a difference!

Event Details:

  • February 18, 5-7pm
  • Serna Center, 5735 47th Ave.
  • FREE MEALS TO BE PROVIDED!

About the Working Symposium:

The interactive symposium on Tuesday, February 18 will bring together groups of families in our community, BPSB representatives, labor partners, educators, and policymakers. Throughout the evening, we will engage in thought-provoking discussions and collaborative roundtables aimed at developing and creating an equity lens to select board policies and administrative regulations within SCUSD.

  • The event will lead to recommendations for changes to our chosen policies and administrative regulations, and new proposals, addressing Board of Education policy for the following BPSB Community Event-Policies Considered 02-18-2025
  • A chance for each participant to share insights, engage in meaningful discussions; utilizing an equity tool to reflect, adjust, and propose concrete revisions that better reflect the needs of Black students and students with disabilities and contribute to shaping the future of our educational platform.
  • We understand that families may only be able to attend if they may bring their children, so childcare will be provided. However, if alternative childcare arrangements can be made, it is encouraged so that parents and caregivers can fully engage in the Working Symposium.
  • Please RSVP by February 11th to confirm your attendance. If you have any questions or need more information, feel free to reach out to SELPA Administrator, Krista-Arata@scusd.edu.

We hope that you can join us in this effort, to contribute your ideas, and to help us stay accountable as we move forward. Together, we can make significant strides in ensuring an educational environment where all students feel seen, valued, and empowered. Your voice and participation are essential in creating lasting, positive change for all students and making this vision a reality.

Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to this crucial work.

In Partnership,

The Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Team
