Summer Meals
Dear Sac City Families,
This summer, in partnership with The Central Kitchen, we will be offering FREE breakfast and lunch at 32 school sites Monday through Friday from June 30 to July 29.
- Breakfast will be served from 8-8:30 am.
- Lunch will be served from 12-12:30 pm.
These meals will be provided to any child aged 18 years old and under at no cost. No paperwork is required. Students are not required to be enrolled in an SCUSD school to receive a free meal.
SCUSD Returns to Mandatory Indoor Masking Effective Monday
Dear Sac City Unified Families,
Please be advised that for the safety of all students and staff, Sacramento City Unified Schools will return to mandatory indoor masking at all school sites, effective Monday, June 6.
NO CHANGE TO SCUSD 2021-22 ACADEMIC CALENDAR
Dear SCUSD Families,
We recognize the uncertainty surrounding the potential extension of the school calendar has caused confusion and frustration for Sac City families. We are writing to inform you that the school year will end as scheduled on June 16, 2022 with no additional instructional days added to the 2021-2022 school year calendar. The 2022-23 school year will start as scheduled on Thursday, September 1, 2022.
Update On Negotiations For Adding Instructional Days
Dear SCUSD Families:
Our district is continuing to negotiate with the Sacramento City Teachers’ Association (SCTA) to address how we will make up for the learning time that our students lost during the recent strike. Our district has proposed to extend the 2021-22 academic calendar to recover most of the instructional days and minutes our students lost.

Instruction Time Recovery Update
The Sacramento City Unified School District remains committed to keeping our families informed about the progress of recovering student instructional time lost due to the recent strike.
The district is determined to reach an agreement that provides students with the quality learning time they deserve while minimizing disruption to family schedules. Additionally, any agreement must consider the financial impact to our budget.
Call for 2022 Essay Contest Entries—$1,000 Scholarship
Operation Recognition Essay Contest Sponsored by SAFE Credit Union
The Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) is now accepting submissions for an essay contest designed to honor local military veterans. The winning high school student will receive a $1,000 college scholarship, courtesy of SAFE Credit Union.

When you need mental health or substance use support, it can be frustrating trying to find a provider accepting new patients. We’re proud to offer Care Solace as a resource to our staff, students and household members to connect to needed care without all the guesswork and searching. Wide Open Walls Mural Jam
Dear Sac City Unified Families,
We have an exciting opportunity for student artists! On Saturday, May 21, Sac City Unified is hosting a Community Fair at Luther Burbank High School. As part of this event, Wide Open Walls is sponsoring four students to live paint a mural! Selected students will also get the opportunity to practice spray painting at Twisted Track Gallery with an artist mentor during the week of May 9 and will have access to free paint and materials provided by Wide Open Walls.

AT-HOME COVID-19 TEST KITS
Please test your student with the kits distributed before Spring Break this Sunday prior to returning to school on Monday, April 18. Learn how to register your kit, report your results and when to test.

Dear Sac City Unified Families,
Next week, April 11-15, is Spring Break! Our schools will be closed, but our COVID-19 testing sites will be open in service of our community. Our Nutrition Services team will also be hosting a curbside food distribution event at nine locations on Monday, April 11 from 9-10:30am.

Apply to be a Member of the LCAP Parent Advisory Committee
All community members are invited to apply for the 2022-2024 term of service on the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). Applications are available now and are due by May 20, 2022. Applications are available for download on the district’s web page. Hard copies are available upon request at the Serna Center or at the front office of school sites.
Check backpacks: FREE at-home COVID test kits for Spring Break
Dear Sac City Unified Families,
Spring Break will remain as scheduled for April 11-15, and as with Winter Break and our February 3-day weekends, we are providing every student and staff member with free at-home COVID test kits which will be distributed this Thursday and Friday. Check your student’s backpack.
Welcome Back to School!
Dear Sac City Unified Families,
We were so happy to welcome your students back to school today after reaching tentative agreements with SCTA and SEIU. We recognize that the recent strike has adversely impacted students, families, and our community and we will need to heal over the next days and weeks by meeting our students’ academic and social and emotional needs.
Negotiations Update: District Reaches Separate Agreements with SCTA and with SEIU to Increase Employee Compensation and End Employment Strike
The Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) has reached agreements with SCTA and with SEIU Local 1021 that end the strike. The agreement with SEIU and SCTA were reached following negotiations sessions throughout the weekend.
Schools will reopen tomorrow! WELCOME BACK!
Dear Sac City Unified Families,
We are so happy and grateful to share that we have reached agreements with our labor partners and SEIU and SCTA have suspended their labor strike. Schools will reopen for our students on Monday, April 4. School bus transportation schedules will also resume as usual. We encourage all families to send students back to school tomorrow.
