Your Board of Education has eight members, seven of whom are elected at large and serve 4-year terms. An eighth member, selected from the high school Student Advisory Committee, serves for one year. The Superintendent of the school district is the ex-officio Secretary to the Board. (Note: During the November 10, 2010 General Election, three Board members will be elected by Trustee Areas. Board of Education Responsibilities
The Board of Education is elected by the community to provide leadership and citizen oversight of the district’s 52,000 student schools. Among its many responsibilities, the Board establishes a long-term vision for the district and sets district policies and goals, while the Superintendent carries out the policies and manages the day-to-day operations of the district.
Your Board is also committed to:
- Conscientiously deciding how to use the district’s financial resources.
- Ensuring accountability to the local community, including personnel, programmatic and fiscal accountability.
- Providing community leadership and advocacy at the local, state and national levels on behalf of all students and public education.
